Vulcan Donates Fuel For Mission

The Downs family was stranded in Houston aboard their disaster relief ship “Glory.” They needed fuel to make a supply run to Puerto Rico. Vulcan Materials Company donated 10,000 gallons of diesel fuel so they could complete their humanitarian mission.

The family of 5 travels the open seas providing free shipping for missionaries. Their non-profit, Good Samaritan Shipping Ministries, was in Houston picking up medical supplies and other materials needed by victims of Hurricane Maria.

The Downs family is made up of mother Shawna, father James, Bailey (12), Lilly (6) and Tucker (5).

“We are happy to be able to do this. As a company, we’re very much into community outreach,” said Atul Sabharwal, Vulcan Materials Marine Division.

“It’s great when corporate generosity comes into play like this. They’re not getting anything from it, they just want to help and I think that’s beautiful,” Downs said.
